Nice Speech Lady LLC — an independent outpatient speech pathology clinic in Socorro, Nee Mexico, — offers innovative access to speech-language services. 

 

Sometimes — factors get in the way of desired access to in-person SLP services, such as:

  • lack of availability/choices in rural areas.
  • transportation challenges,
  • cost of time/resources in traveling,
  • various medical conditions,
  • fatigue factors,
  • scheduling issues,
  • mobility/pain/lack of comfortability in attending new locations,
  • homeschool settings,
  • desire for a second opinion outside of what is typically offered in the area.

Virtual visits through Nice Speech Lady are possible (throughout the states of New Mexico & North Carolina) if all three components are present:

1. The patient/caregivers desire it;

2. Clinical needs can be fully met through virtual visits (the clinician can determine, describe and document that the quality of services are equal to the quality of services that would be provided for in-person visits), according to state licensing laws, and, if:

3. The patient’s payer source, at the time of the referral/planned visit timeframe (following a payer source eligibility check) covers/recognizes virtual visits in the policy/guidelines.

Having the option for virtual visits benefits everyone.

News of the clinic as of 11-19-23:

— Nice Speech Lady LLC utilizes a standing appointment model for patients, so to simplify access to services, due to the complexity of patient schedules and clinic needs. If a specific timeframe is needed for visits, please notify the clinic, so that your requested time for a standing appointment can be added to the waiting list. The best manner to ensure a continued standing appointment is to keep us up to date if you cannot make an appointment, 24 hours of the scheduled time.

— As the practice is small and independently-run, please understand that while there is a waiting list for specific timeframes and appointments, current patients take up the majority of the currently appointment times, thank you. Please patiently vibsider this as you work with the practice. We are not funded by any corporation, having begun our services to the community in a start-up capacity.

— Clerical staff became available for the practice as of 7-3-23. Lisa is usually available for live calls in the mornings on weekdays. We appreciate her greatly! If you call the clinic and desire a live response, please call in the mornings. We also highly encourage use of the patient portal for asynchronous communications.

— Nice Speech Lady moved it’s physical/business location at the start of August 2023 in order to accommodate for growth of the practice. 409 N. California Street Socorro, NM 87801 is the address and allows allow for the hiring of additional support staff and more SLPs. For New Mexico

“Nice Speech Lady LLC” serves patients in person in Socorro, New Mexico at the physical out-patient location, or virtually for clinically-appropriate patients throughout the state of New Mexico. For patients seeking virtual visits appointments, eligibility will need to be determined and may require an in-person evaluation, first, and/or a “tech-check,” and are only provided according to state licensing laws/guidelines.

  • NM United Health Care (UHC) plans (Medicare Advantage plans as a primary insurance, or AARP supplemental/secondary plans, as well as all UHC/Optum New Mexico commercial plans. As primary, thee plans usually have a  maximum amount of visits per calendar year.
  • NM Humana. This plan only reimburses for “brick-and-mortar”/physical location visits (no virtual access for reimbursement, at this time, as of the contract/7-19-23), pre-authorization is usually required.
  • NM Fee-For-Service Medicaid. Follow-up visits beyond the initial evaluation usually require a pre-authorization process.

— Unfortunately, Aetna panels were closed on credentialing attempts in 2022 & 2023, but single-case agreements and waivers may be possible — Please call 505-907-1902 to inquire.

 

 

For North Carolina

“Nice Speech Lady, PLLC” offers clinically-appropriate virtual services, according to what is allowed per state  licensing laws/guidelines, to patients across state lines for tele-practice services for persons residing physically in North Carolina, for persons who desire this access. Eligibility for such virtual visits will need to be determined and will typically require a “tech-check.”

Accepting the following NC plans that do not have a Medicaid component for NC:

  • NC Traditional Medicare, Part B
  • NC Aetna,
  • NC WellCare,
  • NC Humana,
  • NC Cigna,
  • NC Tricare-East (primary)
  • NC Tricare for Life or other secondary tricare plans
  • NC Ambetter

(As of 3-1-23: NC BCBS panel was closed for this practice, when applications occurred, due to NSL not having a corporate physical location in the state. As of 6-23-23: NC UHC/Optum/AARP is not currently possible, as a corporate/physical location is not available currently in NC)

 

 

In General/Reimbursement Factors for both locations:

Private-pay options are available for non-medicaid patients, and for Medicare patients or Medicare-eligible patients with an ABN signature (following determinations).

Not all payers reimburse for tele-medicine access to speech pathology services. Please call if you have questions about your particular plan, and if you desire virtual services in any capacity. In addition, laws and guidelines may have recently changed, so please reach out to Nice Speech Lady LLC.

Consent and clinic procedure agreements and guidelines are in place and a signature is required for pursuing services. Nice Speech Lady utilizes an attendance understanding/agreement — so to be good stewards of available appointments for all patients in the communities we serve.

*The practice is required by law to provide each patient with a good-faith estimate of the out-of-pocket responsibility of all patient, even if it is $0, and updates will be made as more information is available as services are provided. General guidelines on how “Good Faith Estimates” work can be found here.

For patients who are directed by Nice Speech Lady staff to print off intake forms:

— Please print, fill-out, sign. It is required to bring in these forms to the first appointment.

— Please allow at least two hours for the visit. Please call 24 hours in advance if you cannot keep the appointment, as a courtesy and to allow us to serve you. Please update us of any updates or changes.

— Please call for questions. We can met with you prior to the evaluation date if needed, to explain the paperwork.

— Please have all paperwork filled out at the time of the start of the visit.

— Please arrive early so that you can make sure to find the location at 409 N. California St. Socorro, NM 87801

— Please print off pages 1-17, the consent form section, for your records.

— These packets are large. If you would prefer, we can print these out for you to pickup prior the visit.

— There may be additional forms, such as patient rating outcome measures at the time of visit (based on your reported areas of concern, or based on clinician observation).
